About Yahoo Messenger

Yahoo Messenger (also known as YM) is an instant messaging protocol and software application developed by Yahoo. It was released on March 9, 1998 and runs on Microsoft Windows. The official website was messenger.yahoo.com.
Yahoo Messenger status updates appear on this page. We track reported problems with login, message sending and receiving, voice calls, and server connections. Reports come from users, so a spike usually means something is wrong on Yahoo's side. If you see no open reports, your own connection or account settings may be the cause. Check back here before spending time on fixes.
Yahoo Messenger was an instant messaging application and protocol developed by Yahoo. It launched in 1998 and ran on Windows, offering text chat, voice features, and file sharing between contacts. The service is retired, so current reports usually involve historical or archive access rather than live chatting. Login problems and failed message delivery were the most common complaints when it was active. Server connection drops could interrupt voice calls mid-conversation. If you are troubleshooting, confirm your credentials first, then check your own network connection. This page shows whether other users are reporting the same issue.

Questions

Is Yahoo Messenger down right now?

According to reports on this page, Yahoo Messenger looks fine for most people. Isolated failures still happen — report yours if you are stuck.

When was the last mass outage?

We do not have a recorded mass outage for Yahoo Messenger yet.

Why can I not sign in to Yahoo Messenger?

The service was discontinued, so new sign-ins may not work at all. If a login window appears, verify your Yahoo account password and check your internet connection. This page will show if other users report the same login failure.

Does Yahoo Messenger still support voice calls?

Voice chat was one of its main features, but support ended when the service was retired. Active voice features depend on the server connection, which we track through user reports on this page.
