About Unified Payments Interface

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is a digital payment system for inter-bank transfers in India. It was developed and is operated by the National Payments Corporation of India and launched on 11 April 2016. Official product overview: https://www.npci.org.in/what-we-do/upi/product-overview.
Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is India's instant digital payment system for inter-bank transfers. When payments stall, fail, or hang at login, this page tracks it. OutageStats collects user reports in real time and maps them against the status of the apps, banks, and rails behind UPI. Check here before retrying a transaction or blaming your bank app.
UPI is a real-time payment system operated by the National Payments Corporation of India. It connects your bank account to payment apps so you can transfer money, pay merchants, and complete purchases using a phone. Many apps sit on top of it, so a single problem can affect several services at once. Most reported issues fall into a few groups: transactions that fail midway, money debited without reaching the recipient, OTP or login problems, and apps that cannot reach the network at all. Because UPI routes through your bank as well as the central system, slowdowns can come from either side. If a payment fails, first check your bank balance to see whether the amount was actually debited. Verify the recipient's UPI ID or number before retrying. Failed transactions are usually auto-reversed, though the timing depends on your bank. Keeping your app updated and your connection stable prevents many false alarms.

Questions

Is Unified Payments Interface down right now?

According to reports on this page, Unified Payments Interface looks fine for most people. Isolated failures still happen — report yours if you are stuck.

When was the last mass outage?

We do not have a recorded mass outage for Unified Payments Interface yet.

My UPI payment failed but the money left my account. What should I do?

Note the transaction ID first. Failed payments are typically reversed automatically by the bank, and the UPI rules set a deadline for that refund. If it does not arrive, raise the issue with your bank or app's support team using that transaction ID.

Why does UPI fail more often at certain times?

Transaction volume peaks during certain hours of the day, on holidays, and around sales events. High load can slow processing or cause timeouts across banks and apps. Trying again after a few minutes usually works if the system is under strain.
